Why BYC supports Vermont Natural Resources Council

Working Lands Camel's Hump Supporting Vermont Natural Resources Council (VRNC), is part of our “Green Yoga,” theme this year at Burlington Yoga Conference.  It is very important to our organization to learn and teach others the significance of the connection between humans and our planet. Sustainability is a very important and serious matter that us humans need to really consider if we want to live in a healthy planet. The Vermont Natural Resources Council is the oldest member-supported environmental advocacy organization in the State of Vermont.  With the intent of strengthening the Vermont Economy, the organization strives to spread the organizations mission “to protect and restore Vermont’s natural resources and environment for present and future generations through research, education, collaboration and advocacy.”  Using methods such as grassroots movements and the Legislature, VRNC works on issues that are important to Vermonters.  Creating vibrant communities and healthy downtowns, clean and abundant fresh water, working farms and forests, wild places, and clean energy, are the core values behind the organizations work. VRNC has created four different program areas to address these sustainability concerns, they are: Clean Water, Energy & Climate Action, Forests & Wildlife, and Sustainable Communities.

To briefly expand on the four different programs VRNC offers, you can take a further look on the In “Programs” page for more details.  The Water Program is responsible for maintaining “protection, restoration, and enhancement of Vermont’s water resources.”  The Energy & Climate Action program focuses on the fact that we need to consider the economical impacts climate change can have in the State of Vermont if we do not consider our energy usage.  The Forests & Wildlife program specializes in keeping forests the way they should be as they impact the Vermont economy and environment.  Lastly, the Sustainable Communities program strives to keep communities working and depending on each other to maximize efficiency of their resources. Take a look at the Vermont Natural Resources Council “Take Action” page and find out how you can get involved and partipate in the BYC Silent Auction to support VNRC and BYC.
