The amazing Martha Whitney has been teaching yoga for 21 years and counting.  She teaches Therapeutic Yoga, where she helps people who have experienced trauma to their body become refreshed and feeling better.  Martha also specializes in Kripalu yoga which is a gentle healing arts form. She is also a body-mind therapist; this skill allows her to be mindful and inspiring to her students.  Martha is highly loved by her students whether they are from her place of work: evolution yoga, or through private consultation. To begin, Martha’s place of work at Evolution Yoga uses an integrative approach to physical therapy and yoga.  The studio prides itself for its ability to combine physical therapy practices that help heal injuries, with yoga that allows one to get one on the lifelong path of health.  At Evolution, Martha teaches a popular “Living Yoga Restorative Series” class.  This class focuses in restful yoga poses that acquire you to dig deep inside and make you a relaxed being. Martha uses the unique method of Hakomi that gently supports healing from trauma.  Hakomi is a body-centered psychotherapy and somatic experience.  This method helps people “build a more satisfying and effective life.”  It focuses on mindfulness, non-violence, and helps improve personal relationships, self-image and the shape of our lives.  Hakomi allows for the Martha and her students to build a relationship as they work together to heal her student’s bodies. As a presenter at BYC 2013, Martha has a lot to offer to her potential students.  Her background in anatomy, movement, and breath allow her to teach others her gentle healing methods of the body and mind.  Students who experienced trauma and have attended her classes, find that her guidance allows them to move through their healing journey more effectively.  Martha creates a very comfortable environment for her students and helps them gain the confidence they need.
